Thank you to the parents who came to conferences last night. It's always nice to touch base as the rest of the school year will go so quickly. If you were unable to attend last night's conferences, here are a few items I highlighted:
1) Students should continue to read at home 20-30 minutes as many evenings as possible.
2) Right now we are reading historical fiction books for weekly book club meetings (Elephant Run or Code Talker or When Zachary Beaver Came to Town). Students need to come to the book club meeting having read the required section of the book and having completed a reading activity. This week the activity is called Draw It. If students do not come prepared, they lose participation points.
3) Students are finishing final touches on narrative essays. We've been working on these since December, so I'm excited to read the final products. I've provided feedback in writing and in face-to-face writing conferences. If students need more feedback, they are encouraged to see me during SRB, before school or after school, or to email me.
4) Finally, several students entered SDSU's annual writing contests - either a poetry or prose contest. I will be having all students submit a piece for publication or for a contest at some point during third quarter. So if students did not send off writing to the SDSU contests, there will be more opportunities coming up.
Thank you for supporting your student and our school. If you have questions about anything, please feel free to contact me.
