Two items I specifically shared with parents at conferences the evening of October 3 are as follows:
1) Please make sure that your child is reading at home. We get a lot accomplished each day in language arts, so unless students aren't using work time wisely, they may not have much additional homework. I do expect students to read (as much as possible) every night - even if only for a few minutes. Their future will be filled with pages and pages and hours upon hours of academic reading. They need to establish some reading "stamina" (reading for an extended period of time) now, and they need to have opportunities to read what they want to read to continue to develop their tastes, opinions, and enjoyment as independent readers. Asking what your child is reading and encouraging your child to read each night will help immensely!
2) If questions arise about homework or if you would like to know more about what occurs in my classroom, please use this website. Students use the links on various pages every day and can help you navigate. I do try to keep the website updated as much as possible so that it can be a valuable resource for both students and parents.
Thank you for your assistance in your child's education this year!
